Shriners...because we care!
Allegheny Valley Caravan
No. 16 was founded in 1949. Its officers and members are always
willing and ready to welcome new members, young and old. The Syria
Shrine's Allegheny Valley Caravan No. 16 encompasses all the towns,
boroughs, and cities in the Allegheny Valley. Membership is drawn from
Nobles (Shriners) who either live or work in the Allegheny Valley.
When the Syria Shrine Temple moved from Pittsburgh to Harmarville it
was placed in the center of Caravan No. 16's home. Caravan No. 16 is
proud to be the home Caravan of the Syria Shrine.
The Caravan is mostly a social organization. Several events are held
throughout the year. At ALL of the events you will find three things;
good food, good friends, and lots of FUN.
Although most of the events are social in nature there are two service
oriented events. One is the annual paper drive and the other the
Shrine Children's Christmas Party.
The annual Paper Drive is held some time in June. Nobles of the
Caravan donate their time to station themselves outside of
establishments throughout the Valley and pass out "newspapers" which
contain current information about the Shriner's Hospitals. This gives
the Nobles a chance to spread the word about the free care the
hospitals offer to children.
The annual Shrine Children's Christmas Party is held in December. This
party is for the children of ALL
of the Nobles of Syria Shrine. The party consists of refreshments,
prizes, presents, entertainment, and (of course) a chance to visit
with Santa Claus. The several hundred children who attend always have
a great time.
